Jamaican Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Sherah’s 100m time in 2018 was the fastest in the world at 10.89 seconds at the Golden Games at Walnut, California. In her first outdoor race of the season at the meeting east of Los Angeles, Thompson-Herah loosened her opponent’s speed with a favorable wind of 1.6 meters per second.
The American had opted out of the final, winning by 10.77 seconds over American Twanisha Terry. Sachs Hobbs and Gabby Thomas were the second and third winners in the final, which was performed in a favorable wind of about 3.3 m seconds.
After the first 100 meters in the Tokyo Games, Fred Kerley, a silver medalist, won the 200m in 19.80 seconds ahead of fellow American Michael Norman (19.83).

Michael Cherry, the gold medalist of the 4×400 hypervisor relay race at the 2000 Sydney Games, ran the fastest 400m of the year in 44.28 seconds.
