Foo Fighters, a rock band, are planning two special tribute concerts to honor the life of their drummer, Taylor Hawkins, in both London and Los Angeles.
The Foo Fighters and the Hawkins family have announced a series of tribute concerts in honor of Taylor Hawkins, the drummer for both groups, who was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Foo Fighters will honor late bandmate Chris Shiflett during two upcoming shows. The concerts will take place with the group’s remaining members — Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear and Rami Jaffee — on September 3 at London’s Wembley Stadium and on September 27 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. The band has teamed up with Hawkins’ family for the shows. Hawkins’ wife, Alison Hawkins, posted a message to fans on her husband’s Instagram account to coincide with the tribute concerts’ announcement.
The Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl expressed condolences to the family and friends of his former bandmate, Taylor Hawkins, in a statement released two weeks after Hawkins’ death. “The outpouring of love that I’ve received from the global Foo Fighters community and Taylor’s fans far and wide has been an invaluable source of comfort during this time of unimaginable grief,” he wrote. Hawkins, 50, died March 25 in Bogotá, Colombia. Hours before the Foo Fighters were set to take the stage at the Festival Estereo Picnic, a pre-concert event for fans who had bought tickets for the show that evening, he fell ill and was rushed to a nearby hospital. The band immediately canceled its remaining tour dates with him.
