Miami Heat forward Miles Bridges was arrested for felony domestic and child abuse relating to an attempted assault against his partner in front of their children, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday.
The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office said in a statement that NBA player Tony Wroten Jr. was arrested on July 2 and is facing one felony count of injuring a child’s parent and two felony counts of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death. The alleged incident occurred on or about June 27. The DA’s statement cited a criminal complaint on the matter.
District Attorney George Gascón said domestic violence creates physical, mental and emotional trauma that has a lasting impact on survivors. Children who witness family violence are especially vulnerable and the impact on them is immeasurable. Mr. Bridges will be held accountable for his actions and our Bureau of Victim Services will support the survivors through this difficult process. CNN has reached out to Bridges’ representation for comment. The Hornets said the team is aware of the charges.
Bridges was first accused of a misdemeanor on June 29 and was arrested on a $130,000 bond. On July 2, his partner, Mychelle Johnson, posted photos on Instagram documenting injuries on her face. The latest photos have since been deleted.
Johnson also posted what appeared to be a discharge document from a hospital emergency department, describing her alleged injuries as a closed fracture of her nasal bone, a rib contusion, multiple bruises and a neck muscle strain. Johnson writes in the post accompanying the images that she has allowed someone to destroy her home, abuse her in every way possible, and traumatize their children for life. Bridges’ arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to the district attorney’s office. CNN has reached out to both victims for comment.
